Ashley Brooke Roberts Photobomb

Ashley Brooke Roberts, Comedian and Host Extraordinaire.

“I came into [doing Hoover Dam Shows] peripherally, back when shows were in this giant warehouse in Northern Greenpoint that you had to walk to for 20 minutes and I remember being like “ah, the kids are doing it for themselves!” I was really into the whole DIY spirit of the event and also that everyone was really supportive of all of the weird voices that came out.”

“It has always been fun. It’s never not been fun, which is hard to say about a lot of shows that I do. I usually leave feeling inspired.”

Christina: “Every time we do Hoover Dam, it makes us create really unique things that we wouldn’t have created if we didn’t have the Hoover Dam Show. We end up using that work in other settings in our larger works, and we end up creating these really fun things. It seems to constantly be something that germinates really fresh ideas and excitement in us. The crowd is always open to experimental work and it’s also a party, I love it.”

Aeric: “Because theres a higher than average quotient of musicians in the crowd we can make good use of that and enlist them to help with improvs like providing a soundtrack, for instance.”

Alex Mackinnon Photobomb

Alex Mackinnon – Bandleader, The Whistleblowers

“The band is called the Whistleblowers. It’s inspired by my need to try to change all the fucked up things in this world in some small way. Some of my favorite artists are John Lennon, Fela Kuti, Rage Against The Machine – people that have spoken up for what they believe is right. Thats what led me to form this band.”

“We’re doing a very open set. I’m using the amazing musicians I have – basically I want to give them the freedom to express themselves in the maximum way by leaving a lot of room for them to improvise and for us to interact. This one is going to be a little bit of a departure; I’m busting out my computer and using some electronics, so I’m excited to see how that works.”

“I’ve played in a ton of clubs over the past year but these kinds of shows are my favorite. There’s always a wild energy in the air because it’s more DIY and the crowd is filled with dancers, artists, musicians and people looking to have a memorable night.”
