No Strings Attached

Despite the anti-valentine title, we assure you there will be plenty of love flowing at our upcoming show. We’ll be at Spike Hill in Williamsburg for the first time this winter. Our shows at Spike Hill can get pretty busy and the space is narrow, so be sure to come early to get a good spot!

No Strings Attached

This time around, we’ll be featuring some serious string action.

FalalalaLOFT – Saturday December 14th!

Deck the Loft with boughs of Holly!

FALALALA LOFT LOFT LOFT LOFT LOFT.

Due to unfortunate circumstances (which mostly involve underage hipsters partying irresponsibly), we are NO LONGER able to have our wonderful holiday Hoover Dam Show at the glorious LOFT on South 5th St.

However, we have found a replacement space, thanks to our helpful friends at Mr. Rogers in Crown Heights (Falalalala Old-Warehouse-turned-into-cafe-turned-into-awesome-art-gallery-and-venue just didn’t have the right ring, so we kept the old name.) We’ve done shows here before, and it always turns into a good party. Portland Santa might even show up.

Hipster Santa is going.

The show will be a sparkling toast to the holidays, with collaborative performances and immersive experiences galore.

There will be a CASH BAR, FREE WINE AND SNACKS FROM 6-7, and an ART GALLERY.

231 Rogers Ave – Brooklyn NY.

For Locals By Locals

HDC_FLBL09

If you’ve been paying attention to the Hoover Dam Collective on Facebook recently, you may have noticed a multitude of posts regarding a summer show series called For Locals, By Locals, in collaboration with ECS.

What is this?

Well, the Hoover Dam Collective has been asked to curate this series of shows, pulling from our vast network of past collaborators while getting a chance to showcase new performers. The Event Connection Source, created by Avi Werde, is not only providing access to a large space, they set up the show entirely for us! Its a refreshing opportunity for The Hoover Dam Collective to get in touch with the artists again. We aren’t so busy running around that we can’t stop to listen and enjoy the talented performers that collaborate with us. It’s a good chance for our audience to come catch up with the administrators of the Hoover Dam, because we actually have a free moment to chat!

The events are 21+, and they feature clothing from Franklin Ave’s favorite vintage store, Cool Pony. ECS is also doing awesome feature articles on our artists, written by Alexandra Coffey. Here’s a great one about trumpet player Wayne Tucker.

The series is every Wednesday at 8pm at Mr. Rogers. (231 Rogers Ave. Brooklyn) Check out the facebook page for the series here.

Loft In The Thrill of It All

Ah, October. The bittersweet beauty of dying foliage, the crisp crunch of ripe apples, and the plastic-y smell of a new mask for Halloween.

Let’s accept our fate that Winter is Coming together on October 13th HDC style, shall we?

The Hoover Dam Collective presents:

Loft In Translation

141 S 5th Street, Apt 2E, Doors at 7pm. 5$ before 10, 8$ after 10.

Cash Bar, free wine and snacks before 9pm

Suffice it to say, the HDC can add “someone’s loft” to our list of unconventional venues. This time around, we have the unique privilege of working with Chris Ottaviano, Nat Osborn, and Nadia Tykulsker in curating the event, and we’ve put together a doozy of a show. Here’s the lineup:

Dance:
Pia Murray
Katie Dean
Spark(edit)
Jordan Isador

Visual Art by Ivan Ford and Colleen Logan

Poetry by Daniel Grjonko and Carlos Gomez Marquez

Film by
Sarah Konner and Austin Selden
Alex Springer and Xan Burley

Music:
Dustin Carlson
The Matt Simons Trio
Mad Satta
The Nat Osborn Band

DJ David Kiss

(the loft puns will never end. Other contenders include “Loft and Found” and “Loftcore Porn”)

Sunday! HDC at The Living Room.

According to the 2012 Cost of Living index, Manhattan is the most expensive urban area in the United States. Thankfully, residents of the greater New York City area can experience professional quality music, dance, and spoken word provided and curated by the Hoover Dam Collective for the low cost of zero dollars and zero cents at the Living Room this Sunday, July 22nd.

That’s right. High quality art for the same price as that advertisment-laden AM newspaper shoved in your face on the subway stairs. I smell an awesome deal.

Who’s performing?

Kaylah Bell (Newly minted high-school grad with serious song-writing and performing talent. Adorable.)

Christine Hoberg (Remember this awesome collaboration with Francheska Lopez?)

She and the Sun (HDC’s favorite sibling duo, rapidly gaining a much-earned following lately.)

YOUNGmen (Brooklyn-warehouse-pop-rock-goodness. Get your dance on.)

Amanda Macleod, Lindsey Mandolini, and the Hoover Dam Collective will present some fancy dancing.

Daniel Grjonko (spoken word boy of wonder, also “a cigarette-smoking housecat from New Jersey.”)

More Info:

Doors at 6pm

Show: 6:15-9pm. “I have work on Monday morning” is no excuse. Even if you stay until the end of the show, you’ll have time to get home, exfoliate your face AND get your pearly 8 hours of restful peace.

CASH BAR.
