An Evening with Old Friends!

After countless mental disses towards the weather it is totally a normal and intrinsic part of human existence to say “when will it stop” as well as “I need to get out and go on an adventure or something”.

This weekend is expected to be a relief from Mama Snow, and The Hoover Dam Collective Dancers will be warming their tendons and giving it all they’ve got at the Slipper Room on Orchard Street, a downright noteworthy/gorgeous new venue right off of Allen Street.

Come on and cozy it up with old friends Brian & Silbin, Freeman Dre, Little Embers and even more pals. HDC’s own Breegan Kearney (yes that is clickable) will be performing a solo piece (solo anything = cojones and talent) for Kat Rhodes based off of her piece “Sisters I Didn’t Had”. It is worth noting that Kearney has previously stated that she’s “not afraid to slap her audience in the face a bit”, which means that yes, it is definitely going to be a good show.

Mary Carter is also going to show something. If that was purposely vague it’s because she’s the “creative type” that not only seems to do everything that falls under the umbrellas of “creative” and “cool”, but she also manages to just totally excel at all of those things.

Mary Carter

This is her advice for living (that was paraphrased, but this isn’t) –

“Do! Show up! Try and foresee bumps coming and just plow through them by staying active, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and the moment you let down that wall, anything can happen!”

Right. If there weren’t enough reasons to be down to go there’s also Katz’s Delicatessen down the street (Google Maps estimates it as a 3 minute walk), which means that this could essentially be the perfect “snow breakers” night of 2014 with just a little bit of planning.

No Strings Attached

Despite the anti-valentine title, we assure you there will be plenty of love flowing at our upcoming show. We’ll be at Spike Hill in Williamsburg for the first time this winter. Our shows at Spike Hill can get pretty busy and the space is narrow, so be sure to come early to get a good spot!

No Strings Attached

This time around, we’ll be featuring some serious string action.

FalalalaLOFT – Saturday December 14th!

Deck the Loft with boughs of Holly!

Due to unfortunate circumstances (which mostly involve underage hipsters partying irresponsibly), we are NO LONGER able to have our wonderful holiday Hoover Dam Show at the glorious LOFT on South 5th St.

However, we have found a replacement space, thanks to our helpful friends at Mr. Rogers in Crown Heights (Falalalala Old-Warehouse-turned-into-cafe-turned-into-awesome-art-gallery-and-venue just didn’t have the right ring, so we kept the old name.) We’ve done shows here before, and it always turns into a good party. Portland Santa might even show up.

Hipster Santa is going.

The show will be a sparkling toast to the holidays, with collaborative performances and immersive experiences galore.

For Locals By Locals

If you’ve been paying attention to the Hoover Dam Collective on Facebook recently, you may have noticed a multitude of posts regarding a summer show series called For Locals, By Locals, in collaboration with ECS.

What is this?

Well, the Hoover Dam Collective has been asked to curate this series of shows, pulling from our vast network of past collaborators while getting a chance to showcase new performers. The Event Connection Source, created by Avi Werde, is not only providing access to a large space, they set up the show entirely for us! Its a refreshing opportunity for The Hoover Dam Collective to get in touch with the artists again. We aren’t so busy running around that we can’t stop to listen and enjoy the talented performers that collaborate with us. It’s a good chance for our audience to come catch up with the administrators of the Hoover Dam, because we actually have a free moment to chat!

The events are 21+, and they feature clothing from Franklin Ave’s favorite vintage store, Cool Pony. ECS is also doing awesome feature articles on our artists, written by Alexandra Coffey. Here’s a great one about trumpet player Wayne Tucker.

The series is every Wednesday at 8pm at Mr. Rogers. (231 Rogers Ave. Brooklyn) Check out the facebook page for the series here.

Tutus and Brews

Bring something frilly and a fermented fizzy beverage made with yeast. Actually JK. If you show up wearing a tutu or bringing your own booze to this venue, you’ll be the odd man out.

HDC is taking on Bushwick again. You know, that white collar neighborhood filled with corporate lawyers and business men Actually JK again. Bushwick is filled with our favorite kind of people: Artsy broke types! Come revel in the grungy-grafitti’ed coolness that defines life in Bklyn!
